This photo appeared on the front page of the NYT on August 17. The accompanying article was entitled "Faces, Too, Are Searched as U.S. Airports Try to Spot Terrorists", and can be seen online here. The photo conjures up all sorts of Soviet-era Orwellian imagery, and for me represents a chilling commentary on the "state of the state" here in our erstwhile democracy.
My caption for the photo appears in a letter to the editor in today's Times (p. A16). It's the third of three letters under the heading, "Putting On Your Airport Face".
